Okay, its time for my Super Special Supernatural Post!

Basically, this is just a ridiculously large review of 2x14 "Born Under A Bad Sign" with thoughts and pictures and quotes and stuff! YAY.

Definitely NOT dial-up friendly.

Supernatural 2x14: Born Under A Bad Sign

It’s hard to illustrate with caps, because, well, they don’t move, but this scene was so cool. I love how it threw everyone right into the action and it was a cool way to see Dean panicking and catch us up on what was going on. It really made me feel frantic and worried too.

Aww poor Sammy. He looks so scared. Which… doesn’t actually make any sense, considering he’s demon!possessed Sammy, and he could be maniacally laughing as the demon!possessed sometimes do, since he’s not actually on the phone anymore, but meh.

Someone on my flist (I can’t remember who) mentioned that this shot was just recycled from 1x04 Phantom Traveler and it turns out they were right. Also, I’m guessing the Twin Lakes the sign is referring to is in Wisconsin, and I’m pretty sure there are no mountains in Wisconsin. I could be wrong though.

Okay, so in my smaller recap I pointed out that it bothers me that they seem to use the same weird-ass hotel set all the time lately. Here’s my proof. These are caps from Hunted, Nightshifter, Houses of the Holy, and Born Under a Bad Sign, respectively. I’m sure I’ve seen other versions of the Part Wall of Pointless Stuff, but I didn’t look back any farther. What is with the beer bottles/fish/flowers/ladies?

So many people have talked about how Jared knocked this one out of the park, and I agree 100%, but there must be some props given to Jensen for this episode too. You can feel his panic just from looking at caps, for god’s sake. He was amazing.

Dean: Checked in two days ago under the name Richard Sambora. I think the scariest part about this whole thing might be that you’re a Bon Jovi fan.

Dean: You’re okay, and that’s what matters. Everything else we can deal with.

This scene was the only one of the episode that fell a little flat for me. The whole “I don’t remember… but wait. Go over there and open that and weird there’s a key in my pocket!” thing was just a little too cheesy for me. I didn’t buy that Sam didn’t remember. Which I suppose is because he did remember, so I guess that’s okay.

Okay, that is Ava’s car. And it bothers me, because I thought it was… a clue or something, and Sam was too dumb to realize it. I was yelling at him. Really, they should have found a more nondescript car.

Random Shallow Note: That last cap of Sam has no purpose, I just love me some Sammy.

Hello. You, sir, are the only person in the whole world who would tell Jared Padalecki to leave if he walked into your store. He could throw 40’s at me all day and I wouldn’t mind. I love Dean’s incredulous ‘this guy?’ because it really does sound more like stuff he would do. And I love Sam’s ‘who, me?’ face in the second cap. What a cutie.

Random Shallow Note: Look at Sam in cap three! He’s so pouty and adorable.

Blah blah blah I’m skipping through most of the Sam Killed a Hunter scene because there’s not really anything to say. Although I will mention that I didn’t love the actual fight scene, it seemed incredibly staged to me. The guy wasn’t even fighting Sam when he slit his throat, and the way they ran around and stuff just looked very planned to me. I do love the fact that while they’re watching it happen, Dean is watching Sam. It definitely reinforces what Dean said earlier about them being able to handle anything else. He’s not worried that Sam took a life for any reason besides how it will affect Sam.

A lot of people have talked about this scene, and how Dean always keeps his cool and thinks about what needs to be done and how to protect himself and his brother. And he does. But I can’t remember any time that it’s really been reversed. I’d love to see Sam do the same, because regardless of his stronger conscience (the things that they see or can’t prevent seem to bother him so much more) I still believe he would do the same to protect Dean. And I’d like to see the situation reversed.

Sam: For the last few weeks I’ve been having… I’ve been having these feelings.

Dean: What feelings?

Sam: Rage. Hate. And I can’t stop it. It just gets worse. Day by day, it gets worse.

Ahh. THE scene. So much angst. There’s a lot of me that really wishes this scene took place under different circumstances, because so much of it rang true, and it was all pretty much just negated when Evil!Sam came out to play at the end.

I know they discuss in this episode that demons tell the truth sometimes, when it benefits them and whatnot, and I’d really like to think this is one of those times, simply because of the way Sam acted in Nightshifter. He was just a ginormous ass through 80% of that episode, and they never explained why.

Dean: Listen to me. We’re gonna figure this out. I mean, there’s gotta be a way, right?

Sam: Yeah, there is. I don’t wanna hurt anyone else. I don’t wanna hurt you.

Dean: You won’t. Look, whatever this is, you can fight it.

Sam: I can’t. Not forever. Here. You gotta do it.

Dean: You know I’ve tried so hard to keep you safe.

Sam: I know.

Dean: I can’t. I’d rather die.

It’s so hard to watch. I think it’s ridiculously unfair that people keep putting Dean in this situation. Honestly, John should have told Sam as well as Dean. Dean has always been the one who has said that family is everything, so I don’t know how a.) John would have ever believed Dean would be able to take his brothers life or keep the secret from him and b.) how Sam can keep asking Dean to kill him. I get that this time it’s a demon so it’s kind of different, but not really. If you really feel you need to die, Sam, do it yourself.

But don’t really. Because that would be horrible.

Also, I love the camera work in this scene. When Sam gets up during his ‘kill me’ speech, they used just a handheld so the camera shook, and I found it very cool. There were various other times when the same thing happened, and I just liked the effect that it added.

The pistol whipping of Dean was crazy. I honestly did not see that coming at all… I really thought that they were just gonna find out what happened through flashbacks (which is stupid, since I saw the promo pics) so I was genuinely shocked.

And I just need to mention again that Jared was phenomenal. He blew this scene out of the water. Especially when Dean walks away, and said he could never do it. Jared just makes this face like he’s trying so hard to keep it together and OH MY GOD I just turned to crying girly goo.

JENSENASS! MMM.

Hotel Dude: It’s past your checkout.

Dean: …What?

I just loved that moment. He follows him all the way to the door and then is just like ‘wait, huh?’ and it just amuses me. Greatly.

Dean: Yeah, no… Justin is quite the triple threat.

Haha. I love that they can still get their funny lines in. Although I’d have to disagree, because I’m not real impressed with Justin onstage. He wanders around and acts like an idiot. It’s awkward.

Also, the way he talks about being worried and whatnot really reminds me of Cliff in the scene from Veronica Mars “Rat Saw God” when Veronica calls and Cliff pretends to be the scared dad. And that amuses me, because Cliff and Dean… kinda alike.

Whee DULUTH. I’ve been there! Yes sir I have. (I really get way too excited when they have episodes in Minnesota. Even if we are the land of eating people.)

And now there is Evil!Sam. I will try to keep my squeeage of the wonder that is Evil!Sam to a minimum, but a girl can only do so much.

What? There wasn’t anyone else in this scene…

More props to Jared for marvelous acting. Something seems very subtley off about him, in a way that a person like Jo wouldn’t notice, but as viewers, even if he hadn’t been revealed as OMG!EVIL, it was noticeable. And that’s gotta be hard to do. So have some more props, darling. You deserve them.

Also, I think Alona also deserves some compliments. I’ve had my issues with the character (which will be discussed later) but I think she’s a great actress.

Everyone commented on the huge hands. Jared, I love you, my huge handed giant.

Sam: I care about you a lot.

Jo: Sam, what’s going on?

Sam: I could be more to you, Jo.

Jo: Maybe you should leave.

What, are you kidding? This is the sexiest Sam has ever been and you’re turning him away? You are crazy. And you are an opportunity waster. Okay, you’re a Deangirl, we get it. But everyone’s switching sides these days. I should be Jo instead.

When Sam releases Jo’s hand and says “okay.” I turn to goo again. And I have no idea why, but it’s just very very hot. (that’s right when the last cap was taken, by the way.)

And now he grabs her. I know as a woman I should probably be repulsed and whatnot because it’s not okay to do things such as this, but… I want to be Alona Tal SO BAD right now. I bet she humped him. I would’ve. (wow, this has really become about squeeing and not about reviewing at all. Focus, Jackie.) But seriously folks, that is about the hottest thing Sam has ever gotten to do on this show. You better recognize.

There are so many lines that Jared gets that are just so damn creepy and hot at the same time.

It didn’t have to be this way…

Creepy Hot Line #1:

Maybe it did.

Guh. He’s SO CLOSE and I honestly thought he was gonna kiss her. And she can probably feel his breath on her and MY GOD I think I need to be alone for awhile. It is just so damn sexy. I don’t care that he’s a demon, I would do whatever he wanted.

There’s a lot of cute little lines in this scene… I love the way Sam says ‘Answer the question.’ Because there’s a cute little pause. I also love when Jo is asking him what he means when he say’s things didn’t quite happen that way, and he’s just like ‘what? Oh.’ Like he’s so evil that forgot in the 2 seconds since he said ‘not quite.’ And of course I love the knife play. SO HOT.

As for the big reveal about what really happened to Bill, I’m not sure I understand. Jo says that John was too eager and leapt out of his hiding spot which left Bill exposed? Wouldn’t that just expose John too? Or did John like… run the other way or something? And I simply don’t believe that Bill had any chance of living. I’m not John Winchester’s biggest fan, but I really don’t think he’d kill a man if there was a chance he could survive.

Creepy Hot Line #2: My daddy shot your daddy in the head.

That line is BRILLIANT. It’s so creepy and cool at the same time.

Sam: What the hell is wrong with you, Dean? Are you that scared of being alone that you’d rather let Jo die?

That line bothers me for some reason. I don’t see Dean as being scared of being alone (its not like he couldn’t take his pick of women to follow him around for the next 34 centuries) I think it’s that DUH, Sam’s his brother. Brother trumps obsessed girl. Also, I love the look on Dean’s face when Sam says that. You know it’s gotta be driving him insane that there’s a demon in his brother. He just looks incredibly repulsed.

I hope Sam never really does become evil, because I honestly don’t believe Dean would stop him no matter what he did. What if he hadn’t been possessed? I still don’t think Dean could have killed him, even to protect someone he knew and cared about. Which is not so good.

Jo: He was possessed?

Uh, ya think? That is just retarded. DUH JO. Obviously something is not right there, and since you know all about demons and whatnot, why would you think anything else?

Dean: So who are you?

Sam: I got lotsa names.

Me: Like Jackie’s Love Slave.

So this outside set looks a lot like the one from Bloodlust when Dean beheads that vampire and gets all bloody. Just a random observation. I have no idea if it actually is, but it looks like it.

I was honestly surprised that he shot Dean. And also surprised that Dean actually fell in the water. Which makes no sense, since I heard him fall, but I was sure that he was hanging onto the edge or something like that. Because he’s Dean, and that would be cool. And then he could grab Sam’s leg and throw him in the water or something. Although if that happened we’d never get to see…

The Smirk. Hottest face of the night, by far.

Jo gets extra points for going to find Dean. I might just run as far as I could in the other direction if I were her. I gotta say though, I really doubt Dean would still have his phone, unless he keeps it somehow attached. But I hate Alona, cuz she gets to be so close to both boys. BOOOOOOOOOO.

I like wet hair!Dean. He’s pretty.

Jo: Don’t be a baby.

Are you kidding me? You’re taking a BULLET out of his SHOULDER. I’m sure that’s just a little painful. And wouldn’t he need stitches or something? Pretty sure bullet wounds don’t just stop bleeding when you put a bandage on them.

And also, why is Jensen not shirtless? Come on now. I guess I’ll have to be okay with Jensen!arms. Which I am. Definitely.

Dean: I’ll call you later, okay?

Jo: No, you won’t.

So. I’m guessing that’s the end of Jo. I was pretty Jo neutral to begin with, and I’m glad we got to see her again, because I think this tied up the storyline nicely. And part of me is kinda sad that we didn’t get to see the Dean/Jo thing, because I think it could’ve been a really cool pairing if the writers had made Jo’s personality more consistent. I know Kripke originally planned for Jo to be a love interest for Dean and essentially changed his mind because fans weren’t loving her, and I think it made some real inconsistencies in her character, which therefore made it hard to like her. But I like where the character ended up, and I would definitely not be sad if we saw her again. And also, I hope they at least call to tell her everything turned out okay, because she was a part of it.

I love how when people see Sam alone, they immediately ask where Dean is. Do these boys seriously spend no time whatsoever apart?

I must admit, I was worried for Bobby at first. I should have known better, because Bobby is the coolest person ever, but I thought Evil!Sam might get the best of him. I’m also kind of surprised that Evil!Sam didn’t go to Bobby before Jo, because Bobby had at least a small part in the demon being expelled from Meg, whereas Jo didn’t. Maybe Jo was just closer.

Sam: Dean… back from the dead. Getting to be a regular thing for you, isn’t it? Like a cockroach.

I like that line. It made me giggle, cuz it’s kinda true.

Sam: Sam’s still my meat puppet. I’ll make him bite his tongue off.

Dean: Oh, you won’t be in him long enough.

What’s with demons and the word meat? The yellow-eyed demon called John’s body a meat suit and now Sam’s his meat puppet (which sounds vaguely dirty). It’s weird. And I love how serious Dean gets when he says the demon won’t be in Sammy long enough. SEXY. Also, Jared has a damn good evil laugh.

LATIN! *is girly goo once more*

This would be my second favorite look of the episode. WHY MUST YOU BE SO HOT?

I love the creepy movement they have for demons on this show. Like the kids from Pilot or Bloody Mary. It really makes them about 459 times more scary. (Which in Bloody Mary’s case was NOT necessary.)

Sam: By the way, I saw your dad there. He says “howdy.”

That’s gotta be losing it’s edge for Dean by now. These demons need some new material. But hee, “howdy.” It’s like “okie dokie.”

Sam: But whatever I do to you, it’s nothing compared to what you do to yourself, is it? I can see it in your eyes, Dean. You’re worthless. You couldn’t save your dad, and deep down, you know you can’t save your brother. They’d have been better off without you.

Again. New material, people. Anyone with eyes would know that neither John nor Sam would be better off without Dean. He held the family together, and I’m sure both John and Sam would be dead a million times over without Dean. Also, OWW don’t put your finger in his bullet hole! That’s gonna be infected…

Sam: Did I miss anything?

Ha! What a cutie. And I love that Dean punches him. I know it technically wasn’t his fault, it was the demon, but still. I think Dean deserves at least a punch. And look at Sam’s face in that last cap. ‘Bitch no you didn’t!’ Haha.

The stuff Bobby says about not telling about the dead hunter makes sense to me, and I kinda figured that was Sam and Dean’s plan the whole time.

Bobby: That demons still out there. This will stop him from getting back up in ya.

Dean: That sounds vaguely dirty, but thanks.

It really, really does. Also, I love Sam’s ‘sorry’ face before he leaves. *squishes Sam*

Dean: Sam, when Dad told me I might have to kill you, it was only if I can’t save you. Now if it’s the last thing I do, I’m gonna save you.

Finally, they point this out. Sam has been acting like what John said means he will be evil, no matter what. That’s not the case. They’ve been warned, he’s got the most protective brother in the history of the world. Just because it could happen doesn’t mean it will, and I’m glad Dean finally pointed that out.

Dean: Dude you… you full on had a girl in you for like a whole week. That’s pretty naughty.

Hee! I like that the ending was kind of upbeat and happy, not just Sam moping some more about this. It wasn’t his fault, there wasn’t anything he could really do to stop it, and I’m tired of my boys being emo. STOP BEING EMO PLZ.

Ooookay. That’s it. That was fun, and I hope you all enjoyed it as well.

Veronica Mars -- Favorites and Least Favorites of Season One

Favorite Episode -- 01x21 A Trip To The Dentist

What is not to love about this episode? There is flashbacks and Logan/Veronica and angst and Logan snark and Teddy doing some decent acting and talk of Dick breeding. This episode worked for me on like 23320 levels... it was well paced and incredibly interesting, and although the reveal at the end of season 2 somewhat cheapens it, its still most definitely my favorite episode.

Least Favorite Episode -- 01x03 Meet John Smith
I would honestly say Wrath of Con if it wasnt for the flashbacks and Logan/Veronica stuff, because I hate hate hate hate hate the MotW. Hate. But I'll go with Meet John Smith. It says a lot for season one that my least favorite episode isnt even that bad. It prolly doesnt even rank on my top 10 least favorites. It's mainly just that I've seen it too much.

Favorite Line -- "Anthropomorphic" 01x07 The Girl Next Door/"Demand It" 01x19 Hot Dogs

So I have to do two for this, because theres one funny one I love, and one serious one.

CLEMMONS: Mr Echolls. I was wondering if I could have a word
LOGAN: Anthropomorphic. All yours, big guy.

I'm sorry, but that makes me laugh every time I watch that episode. Marry me, Logan.

MANDY: I can’t believe you did that.
VERONICA: I can’t believe that you didn’t. You want people to leave you alone, Mandy, or better yet, treat you with respect? Demand it. Make them.

That line is just so incredibly VERONICA, and its a Veronica we havent seen since around then. It's not annoying follower season 2 Veronica and its not bitchy season 3 Veronica, but season one Veronica who had had a hard time lately and is strong and helps people just to do it. I miss you.

Favorite Scene -- On Veronica's Doorstep, 01x21 A Trip To The Dentist

LOGAN: I'm not leaving.
VERONICA: It's kind of a bad time.
LOGAN: Okay. So I should come back when, never? That work for you? What did I do, Veronica? Can you just tell me so that I can apologize or explain?!
VERONICA: Explain. Okay. Explain to me why you were the one with GHB the night of Shelly Pomeroy's party when someone drugged and raped me. Explanation? Apology?
LOGAN: You were raped?
VERONICA: Okay, don't! Seriously!
LOGAN: What happened to you?
VERONICA: You tell me.
LOGAN: Wait. Wait a second, you think-
VERONICA: I was told you were the one with the drugs.
LOGAN: Yeah. I got some Liquid X when I was in Tijuana with Luke and Sean. We were just gonna have some fun.
VERONICA: Fun? Like sex with unconscious people fun?
LOGAN: No, fun like go to a rave fun.
VERONICA: Oh. Okay. You've convinced me. Bygones.
LOGAN: What can I do? What can I do to make it better?
VERONICA: I'm going to find out who did this to me and I'm going to make them pay. Even if it was you. Sorry. I have to go throw up now.

I LOVE ANGST. And this scene is amazingly acted by JD and KB. And it has so many great lines.

Favorite Character -- Veronica

Logan would be a close second, but I didnt like him at first. Season one Veronica was great. She helped people just to help them and she wasnt half as stubborn and unreasonable as she is now. Back then she at least treated the people close to her well, and now she rarely does that. She's strong willed and smart and funny and I absolutely loved her. Also completely random, but I loved all the accents she got to use in season one.

Least Favorite Character/Least Favorite Recurring Adult -- Lamb

Oh you special guy, you get two awards.He's grown on me over the seasons, but I absolutely hated him with a fiery passion in season one. He was NEVER nice, and the way he handled Veronica coming to him about the rape is inexcusable. What makes me even madder is the way he acts in season three with Parker, and how Veronica smiles like its cute or something.

Favorite non Logan or Veronica Character -- Lilly

She was quirky and fun and I think she made Veronica who she was, not just by dying but by helping her come out of her shell and be comfortable with herself. Amanda Seyfried did a great job in the roles and I always got excited when I knew she'd be in an episode. She was always memorable. And the scenes with her in them were some of the prettiest and most interesting, so she gets points for that too.

Favorite Recurring High Schooler -- Weevil

I love Weevil in season one, when he actually got storylines and had a purpose. He reminds me a lot of a male Veronica, because the people he cares about he'll do anything for, and everyone else may as well not exist. He also isnt nearly as tough as he pretends to be. I also love his protectiveness over Veronica and that he loved Lilly.
(Meg and Mac are definite runner up...s)

Favorite Recurring Adult -- Leo

I liked Leo! He was mumble-y and cute and good for Veronica. Now granted, I liked him less when season one actually aired because he was NOT LOGAN, but I think they were a good match and I liked the innocence of their relationship.
(Cliff and Trina are runners up)

Least Favorite Recurring High Schooler -- Caitlin
Okay, shes not recurring, but I cant really think of anyone I *really* dont like. So she wins. Because I HATE PARIS HILTON. She cannot act, and she is fugly and I feel bad for Jason Dohring for having to kiss her because he prolly got 94 diseases from it. And there will be no pictures of her because I HATE HER and I dont want to look at her. Ever.

Best Parent -- Keith

DUH. Who else would even be an option? Hes the only one who doesnt completely suck.

Worst Parent -- Lianne
I know what Aaron did is like a thousand times worse, but I HATE LIANNE SO MUCH. What a drunk slut bitch. Maybe bitchy s3 Veronica is channeling Lianne. You abandon your family, have an affair with another man, when your daughter finds you and puts you in rehab you LEAVE and waste her money, and then you steal some more of it when she asks you to leave again. Please never come back.

That was fun. I might do supernatural too.

Went to visit my high school drama teacher today... I MISS HIGH SCHOOL. WAH.

The Process
Step One

Hi! I'm Jackie, I'm nineteen, and I live in Minnesota. It's cold. I'm a sophomore in college, I plan to be a teacher at some point.
